with Dr Tanya Cates
Bali - 15-22 May 2027
About Travel The Y Way
Travel the Y Way offers bespoke, immersive small-group journeys, bringing together like-minded travellers to experience the world with purpose, passion, and style.
Guided by our eight 'Y Factors' - Adventure, Artistry, Culture & Community, Generosity, Nature & Sustainability, Taste, Wellbeing, and The Unexpected - we craft journeys that go beyond the ordinary. Each experience has one Y Factor at its heart, while the remaining seven are woven seamlessly throughout, creating a layered, memorable adventure.
We are thrilled to present our very first Travel the Y Way Wellbeing journey, in May 2027. Discover a different side of Bali with our Movement & Wellbeing Expert, Dr Tanya Cates, across two exceptional COMO properties: three nights at the vibrant, coastal COMO Uma Canggu, followed by four nights at the serene COMO Shambhala Estate in the island’s spiritual heart, a seamless transition from playful, ocean-side wellness to deep, restorative rejuvenation.

Your Wellbeing Week...
Day 1 (Saturday 15 May) - Welcome to Bali!
Welcome to Bali. After your transfer from the airport, settle into your beautiful beachside room at COMO Uma Canggu and soak in the coastal energy of this vibrant surf town.
The afternoon is yours, perhaps begin with a one-on-one Pilates or exercise physiology session with our Movement & Wellbeing Expert, Dr Tanya Cates. As the sun sets, we'll gather for Welcome Drinks and a spectacular seafood BBQ on the beach, where you'll meet your fellow travellers and share our stories (and the first of many laughs).
Day 2-3 (Sunday 16 May - Monday 17 May) COMO Uma Canggu
These coastal days blend adventure, creativity, and ocean-side wellness. Rise for a guided beach meditation with Tanya, fuel up with a healthy COMO breakfast, then head out on an E-bike tour to the iconic Tanah Lot sea temple. On Monday morning, enjoy Tanya’s uplifting ‘Unfurl’ Pilates class on the beach, and a sensory candle-making workshop with Seven Senses Lab
Afternoons are yours to design: indulge in a massage, explore the neighbourhood, relax by the pool, or try an optional experiences such as horse riding on the beach, or surf lessons.
Each evening, we gather for dinner at COMO's Beach Club - delicious, healthy, and always shared in good company.
Day 4 (Tuesday 18 May) - Canggu to Ubud
As we farewell the coast today, we rise before the sun for an endorphin boosting ‘Vibe Rise’ experience on the beach - breathwork, meditiation, and dancing into the morning like no one's watching.
After a leisurely final few hours in Canggu, we make the scenic journey to COMO Shambhala Estate, trading coastal energy for the tranquil, lush hills of Ubud. Upon arrival, settle into your jungle residence before experiencing a beautiful riverside picnic and one of the trip's most profound moments: a group water blessing with a local priest at a sacred spring - a beautiful introduction to the heart of Balinese spirituality.
The afternoon is yours to explore, rest by your residence’s pool, or take the steps down to the stunning spring water pool overlooking the Agung River.
Day 5 - 7 (Wednesday 19 May - Friday 21 May) - COMO Shambhala Estate
Three full days immersed in Shambhala Estate's jungle sanctuary. Each morning begins with a pre-breakfast session exclusive to our group - Qi Gong, yoga, or a bicycle tour through rice paddies and rural Balinese countryside.
Across these days, you'll experience a rich variety of wellbeing moments: a Shambhala cooking class exploring COMO's nutrition philosophy, a traditional ‘Canang’ Balinese blessing-making class, and a community generosity excursion. We will take advantage of Thursday evening’s full moon with a special Full Moon Yoga class, a combination of breath work, mindful movement and restorative yoga poses all aligned with the lunar energy.
Leisure time is generous and intentional - book treatments, join COMO's scheduled classes (breathwork, hydrotherapy, meditation, yoga, mindful mandala and more), or simply be still by your private pool.
Optional adventures include river rafting, a palmistry and astrology reading with a village healer, or a visit to Ubud town centre for some local shopping.
Evenings bring us together in beautiful settings - Glow restaurant, Uma Cucina, and a surprise Farewell Dinner to celebrate the journey.
Day 8 (Saturday 22 May) - Farewell!
Our final morning together begins with a guided gratitude meditation with Tanya - a moment to reflect on the transformation and connections made throughout the week.
After breakfast (and if you have the time, squeezing in one final class, bid a heartfelt farewell to the COMO team and your fellow travellers before your airport transfer, or continue onwards to your next adventure.

Meet Your Y Travel Host…
Lisa Atkinson
Lisa Atkinson is Y Travel's Marketing Concierge, the creative force behind the inspirational stories and images that bring our blogs and EDMs to life. With a passion for travel experiences that are immersive and encompass all of our Y Factors, Lisa has spent her career across various roles within the travel industry, (in addition to being a professional photographer) and is always seeking out the experiential and the extraordinary.
But it's Lisa's other 'side hustle' as a group fitness instructor, a role she held for over 15 years from the early 2000s, that led to one of her most treasured friendships. It was through teaching fitness classes that Lisa first struck up a bond with Tanya, and last November the pair embarked on a fun little ‘girls' trip’ to COMO Shambhala Estate. Those few days of joy, inspiration, creativity, movement, and delicious food, woven together with meaningful spiritual and cultural experiences, became the catalyst for this very itinerary.
As your Y Travel host for this Travel the Y Way - Wellbeing journey, Lisa is thrilled to share that same experience with a group of like-minded travellers, curating a week filled with diverse and enriching expereinces that embody the ‘yin and yang’ of Bali, complete with a few signature Y Travel surprises along the way!
Just like Tanya, Lisa believes wellbeing should be enjoyable, accessible, and easy to weave into daily life - even outside the cocoon of a tropical paradise. She can't wait to welcome you to Bali and share in a week that will inspire you long after you return home. Lisa will be joining the group to share in the beautiful surroundings, immerse herself in the rich Balinese culture, and be on hand to assist with organising any optional experiences or additional travel arrangements you may need.
Whether you're an existing Y Travel client, or are discovering us for the first time, Lisa is looking forward to welcoming you to the Y Travel family.

Q. WHY ARE ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TRANSFERS NOT INCLUDED? CAN YOU ARRANGE THIS FOR ME?
A. Because everyone will be flying in from different places, on different flights, we’ve left airport transfers out of the price so you’re not paying for a car you don’t need. Once we have your flight details, we’re happy to arrange your transfer from Denpasar Airport to COMO Uma Canggu, and from COMO Shambhala Estate on the final day. If you’re happy to share with fellow Travel the Y Way travellers, even better, it’s a lovely way to start getting to know each other. Extending your stay in Bali before or after the week? We can also arrange onward transport to and from our COMO properties.
Q. CAN’T I JUST BOOK ALL OF THIS MYSELF AT A CHEAPER RATE?
A. No, and we’ve made sure of it! Through Y Travel’s relationship with COMO Hotels, we secure rates that aren’t available when booking direct. On top of that, the price includes your luxurious COMO accommodation, meals, group experiences, classes and massages, transfers between the two properties, and private Pilates or exercise physiology time with Tanya. Lisa is on site as your concierge to arrange anything extra, and leads a photography tour along the way. Add the company of a small group of like-minded travellers and a few special Y Travel surprises, and the result is a week where, from the moment you arrive in Canggu to the moment you leave Ubud, there’s nothing to pay for unless you choose an optional excursion. Just turn up and enjoy it.
Q. DO I HAVE TO DO ALL THE INCLUDED ACTIVITIES?
A. Absolutely not! While we have carefully curated our itinerary to feature an eclectic selection of included wellbeing activities, we also recognise that sometimes wellbeing can also include a nice sleep-in, or leisure time by your residence’s pool. You’re free to do as much or as little as you please. (Please note: reimbursements or hotel credits are not available for any included activities you do not participate in.)
Q. IF I AM ON MY OWN CAN I SHARE A ROOM WITH ANOTHER SOLO TRAVELLER?
A, If we find that there is another member of our group who is of the same gender and happy to share a room we can absolutely arrange this for you.
Q. CAN MY DIETARY REQUIREMENTS BE CATERED FOR?
A. Diet and nutrition are such a huge part of wellbeing, and the team at COMO properties are experts at accommodating specific dietary requirements for their guests, creating alternative menu options that are both delicious and in line with your dietary needs.
Q. CAN I HAVE A PRE-TOUR CONSULTATION WITH TANYA TO DISCUSS ANY SPECIFIC PHYSICAL OR WELLBEING ISSUES I WOULD LIKE TO WORK ON?
A. In order to help us create the best possible experience that caters to the goals of all of our Travel The Y Way group we will send you a detailed questionnaire in the lead up to our departure to find out the wellbeing goals that are most important to you. If you do have a more detailed goal or wellbeing challenge that you would like to discuss, we are happy to arrange a chat with Tanya before we arrive in Bali
Q. AM I ABLE TO HAVE MORE THAN ONE PRIVATE SESSION WITH TANYA DURING THE TRIP?
A. We have allocated time in our itinerary for each participant to have a one on one session with Tanya in either reformer pilates or exercise physiology. There may be one or two spare times in our week that Tanya will be able to add in extra sessions depending on final group numbers. Additional sessions with Tanya are priced at $150AUD and can be booked separately directly with her, subject to availability. As our Movement and Wellbeing Expert, Tanya will be on hand all week for a chat, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to ask any questions or discuss ways you can implement the some new healthy habits into your daily life once you’re back home.
Q. DO I HAVE TO EAT WITH THE GROUP EVERY NIGHT?
A. Travel the Y Way group meals are always great fun as we get together and share our experiences and stories from the day. Of course, we understand that some nights you just want to stay in your room and enjoy some quiet time, so if this is the case we can arrange for dinner to be brought to you.
Q. WHAT IF THERE ARE OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS NOT LISTED ON YOUR ITINERARY THAT I WOULD LIKE TO DO?
A. Wonderful, that’s what the free time is for! We’ll link to the full excursion lists for both COMO Uma Canggu and COMO Shambhala Estate, so you can browse and pick whatever sparks your curiosity. Please note that any excursions outside the included itinerary are additional and payable directly to the hotel. Lisa will be on hand to help you plan, so you can mix and match as much (or as little) as you like.
Q. WHEN DO I NEED TO COMMIT TO THE OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS BY?
A. Some of the additional excursions do need to be booked at least a few days in advance, so the sooner you can decided the better. Having said this, the fabulous team at COMO will do their best to accommodate any last minute excursion requests.
Q. HOW FIT DO I NEED TO BE?
A. A reasonable level of fitness and mobility is helpful, particularly for the steps down to the spring pool at COMO Shambhala Estate, which are well worth the effort. Beyond that, there’s no need to be an athlete. Tanya and the COMO instructors can modify any of the movement sessions and excursions to suit your level of ability, so everyone can join in at their own pace. If you have any concerns about mobility or health, let us know when you register and we’ll happily talk it through.
ANYTHING WE’VE MISSED? If you have any further questions we will happily answer them for you. Just email lisaa@ytravel.world and we’ll get back to you with an answer ASAP. -
Q. You'll be taking guests from the coastal energy of Canggu into the stillness of Shambhala Estate. Why does that particular arc matter?
A. It could not be more perfect! The multidirectional, ever-changing waves at Canggu help you ease out of the busyness of work and everyday life into a rhythmic calm, which opens you up to the new and unexpected. Then we ride the wave, pun intended, into the jungle, where the single-directional flow of the river helps you consolidate new habits and thoughts until they become automatic. That leaves more room for fun, and for responding rather than reacting.
The jungle... my goodness! I literally teared up when I saw how beautiful it is, and I'm not normally one to do that. By that point your body is rested and enquiring, and the river somehow steadies you into stillness, intentional movement like Pilates, and gorgeous nourishing food. Time slows down, yet I fitted in so much and felt energised in a non-frantic way. Grounded!
Q. What's a moment from designing this itinerary that you're most looking forward to sharing with the group?
A. That's so hard to pick, I'm energised by working with my great friend (and Y Travel co-host for this retreat) Lisa, and the Y Travel team. I'm looking forward to watching guests regulate their nervous systems so they can delight in trying things they wouldn't ordinarily choose. The food, the locations, the movement... pick one? Impossible. We do have a sneaky treat planned on the beach that I don't want to spoil, and anything involving sunrise or sunset stillness at these COMO locations will be magic. It's extraordinary how much you can fit in and still feel so rejuvenated.
Q. For someone who's never done a guided wellness trip before and is a little sceptical, what would you say to them?
A. Scepticism is great, it allows you to be surprised. This trip is built around opting in and adding, not deprivation. It's about getting calm enough to work out what you love and need, rather than having someone tell you. The guidance and experiences are there for the taking, and once your nervous system settles, you'll find you innately know what your body needs, and you're far more willing to be curious.
Q. You've said wellbeing isn't about deprivation. What does that look like in practice, for someone who's spent their life thinking wellness means restriction?
A. Wellness adds value to your state of being. It's individual, it changes, and it can be mental, physical, emotional or spiritual, depending on the person and where they are in life. One month it might be a massage or a Pilates session, the next it might simply be getting to bed an hour earlier or prepping your food for the week. If it isn't convenient and enjoyable, or ideally both, it won't be sustained, and then shame and guilt take over. Wellness should add value, not make you feel bad about what you do or don't do. I'd also recommend it be fun, or at the very least that it changes how you feel.
Q. Your three pillars are engagement, effectiveness and motivation. How do those actually show up across a week like this?
A. Engagement is about willingness, connection and curiosity. It's not a promise that everything will be for you, it's a chance to rediscover what you enjoy or have forgotten you enjoyed. Effectiveness is about noticing how things make you feel in your body, away from the autopilot of everyday life. Does this class relax me? Does this food sit well? What do I actually like doing? Motivation can't be handed to someone, but a week where you don't have to plan anything is the match to the fire. It either sparks a big YES, I want more of this feeling, or it prompts you to ask the experts whether there's another way that will make you want to change.
Q. What's one wellbeing habit you personally never travel without?
A. Movement, and fun. I know that's two, but for me one goes hand in hand with the other. My saying is "if it's not fun, why do it?" That doesn't mean every task brings instant joy, but the curiosity and skill-building can be fun simply because you know where it leads.
Q. Thirty years in this industry is a long time. What's changed the most in how you think about movement and wellbeing since you started?
A. My love of what I do hasn't changed, and I'm lucky for that. What has changed is my expectations of my body. I was harder on it in the early years. It can still do everything it could back then, but now I listen to how it responds and I teach clients to do the same.
The industry has changed too. Fitness gear used to be your comfy old stuff that you were happy to sweat all over, and now it's technical and very much about looks. There's also a need to measure everything, from heart rate to sleep to food, and I see clients panic about getting off the waitlist for their favourite class. Tracking can motivate some people, but it can also turn wellness into a task to tick off rather than a feeling. Devices are external, while our body's receptors are internal. The music, the people, the silence, your own heartbeat are all valid experiences that link us to the present moment, which is what we're really seeking. We've overcomplicated something that's actually quite simple and beautiful.
Q. You work across Pilates, exercise physiology and anatomy. How does having all three in your toolkit change the way you guide a group?
A. It means I can understand the inner workings of the body alongside the feelings and behaviour patterns I see in people, so I can build wellness strategies they'll actually enjoy and stick with. In a group, I can read the energy level and movement competence in the room, and my anatomy background tells me what each body can and should be doing. Then physical activity becomes a tool, either to up-regulate the nervous system and energise, or to down-regulate and calm.
Q. If someone does everything on this trip and then goes home to ordinary life, what's the one thing you want them to keep doing?
A. Move to release, activate and strengthen, whether that's in body, mind or spirit. Try new things, and be curious!
Q. Why do you think this kind of small-group, expert-led format works better for real behaviour change than a solo spa holiday?
A. Research (including my own), and years of watching clients (and myself) show that sustained engagement depends on social connection, belonging, expert knowledge, feeling competent, a supportive environment and, most importantly, FUN.
There's nothing wrong with a spa holiday, they're lovely and it depends what your system needs. But the relaxation comes from external factors, so it's temporary and relies on a practitioner. Having to pre-book treatments when you're already stressed and over-scheduled can feel like yet another task. We've taken the guesswork and timetabling out of your hands, so the only decision left is opting in to what appeals. Decisions need not be any bigger than which juice you'd like! We've gathered the best we can so you don't have to worry. We are here for YOU!
